Facebook “Checks in” With Geo-Targeting app

A new Facebook app is changing the way small businesses use internet marketing, yet again. The newly introduced Facebook Places geo-targets customers, much like the popular social networking websites like Foursquare and Gowalla.

Facebook Places allows businesses to interact with customers in their area. Facebook users can share their location and their activities with their network, and will have the ability to search for new places using this app.

Much like Foursquare, users will be asked to check in to their locations, and this is where the business benefits. The more check-in’s a business can get, the more popular it will be within it’s location, drawing traffic in a similar way to word-of-mouth advertising.

Right now, Facebook Places is only going to be available to those that have advanced Smartphones, but that’s all expected to change in the future, making Facebook Places as accessible to everyone as Facebook itself is!
